Just four days before the UFC’s return to Brazil, a featherweight bout on the preliminary card has been knocked off the slate.
Rodrigo Damm (11-6 MMA, 2-1 UFC) was set to meet Hacran Dias (21-2-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 29. But kidney stones appear to be the culprit that will take Damm off the card. With such short time before the card, the UFC apparently will not seek out a new opponent for Dias.
Brazilian news outlet Combate reported the news on Saturday, and UFC officials have removed the fight from the official bout listing at UFC.com.
UFC Fight Night 29 takes place Wednesday at Jose Correa Arena in Barueri, Sao Paulo, Brazil. The main card airs on FOX Sports 1 (7 p.m. ET) following prelims on the same channel. One fight was slated to stream on Facebook, but that bout likely now will move up to the FOX Sports 1 prelims (5 p.m. ET).
Damm was looking for his second straight win after a split-decision victory over Mizuto Hirota in June in Brazil. That got him back in the win column after a split call setback against Antonio Carvalho at UFC 154.
Dias was trying to rebound from a decision loss to Nik Lentz in May that snapped a nine-fight winning streak. Prior to that, he made his UFC debut at UFC 147 in June 2012 with a decision win over Yuri Alcantara.
With that fight’s removal, the full UFC Fight Night 29 card includes:
