Abraham is fully aware of Froch’s ring skills as he suffered a one-sided points defeat at the hands of ‘The Cobra’ in 2011.
But he has watched Groves’ progress with interest and believes he can rip away Froch’s WBA and IBF super-middleweight titles on November 23, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Abraham, a former two-weight world champion, witnessed Groves’ two-round demolition of Baker Barakat in Germany and has tipped him as a future star of the division.
“I see Groves as a lively underdog and would not be surprised if he beats Froch,” he told skysports.com.
“I was ringside March 23, when he stopped his opponent in fashion and I am really impressed by him. He could well be one of the best in the future as he is still very young.”
Froch has questioned whether the 25-year-old Groves is a worthy challenger, but Abraham feels he is taking ‘The Saint’ too lightly.
He is backing the younger man to pull off a points triumph if he holds his nerve on the big stage.
“Froch is physically and mentally very strong and not intimidated by anyone, but in the build-up he sounds like as if he underestimates Groves’ abilities a tad too much,” said Abraham
“Groves is more dynamic than Froch and might be able to beat him to the punch.
“If Groves can handle the surroundings, I see him winning this fight on points.”
